Airports

Airports are places of encounters and disagreements, where a trip starts and concludes, and even if it’s only few days or several months, it has an atmosphere of anxiety, where it’s possible to see faces of  happiness when we expect someone, or sadness when that persons leaves. It can be a son, a daughter, a husband, a wife or a new friend.

Even if sometimes it seems that airports are full of persons, I found a statistic indicating that only 5% of the world's population has traveled in an airplane. Some persons  never will flight in theirs life time and to some others, it’s like taking a usual journey to go home.

I like airports for being special places to observe persons, I've had in honor of finding  interesting people while we wait for our flight, and I've seen the best of some people when they help others in those moments of panic for facing their first flight or mothers giving support to children or even pets trying to understand what is going on.

While for some it´s almost a moment of routine, for some others is a sign of courage. Finally, humans were not designed to fly. It is a complex feeling between fear of an accident, being shut in a place so small between so many strangers, and it must be added some body responses to the elevation and landing higher or below the level of the sea, which leads to the well-known ear pain with which many passengers have to deal.

Decide a place to sit down during fly can be an issue. The window seat gives you an great view of the travel and allows you to see the city that departing or arriving from the sky, which is certainly an experience.  Even if some say is the worst place because you don't have one the opportunity to walk and stretch your legs.

Middle seats can produce  a feeling of claustrophobia, and if persons of the sides are not very sociable, flight can be a torture, so it’s are really appreciated when the pilot says that landing maneuvers are beginning.

The aisle seat seems a paradise until flight attendants begin to distribute beverages, there is no way to get up.

Sometimes you have to travel to a place where you never have been, and that creates the excitement of knowing a new place, sometimes a new culture, occasionally you can be sharing another language,  so it doesn’t matter if your body has to adjust to a drastic change of schedule that alters the internal clock, you know it's going to be a great moment in your life!.

Paulo Coelho says that "A usual traveler knows that it is always necessary to leave someday" and my favorite quote was said by an anonymous author and says: "When I travel, only took a small suitcase, everything important is in me".

So today I want to share my fascination by the airports and if one day we find each other in one, don't forget to smile, which make the trip more enjoyable to everybody.

  3. Thank you Gaby
They can be whatever you want them to be!. I can feel nervous around some, like Atlanta airport, or Houston, but some others are so easy like Terminal 2 in Mexico City or Terminal 5 in O'Hare airport in Chicago.

    Gracias Aldonza
